Wardrowbe Is Now on Android: AI Outfit Planner

Wardrowbe is now on Google Play. You can install it on any Android phone, sign in, and start photographing your clothes.
The Android app has been in closed testing for a while. Google asks new developer accounts to run a closed test with a set number of testers over a set period before an app can go to production, so that's where it sat while I recruited testers and fixed what they found. Production access came through, the release passed review, and now anyone can install it. If you were one of the testers, thank you. Alot of the small fixes in this version came from your reports.
What you get on Android
The Android app is the same app as the iPhone version, built from one codebase and updated at the same time, and every feature below is on the phone:
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Photo capture and AI tagging | Photograph one piece or several in one shot, and each is found and tagged with type, color, pattern and formality |
| Daily outfit suggestions | Outfits from your own clothes, using the weather, the occasion and what you've liked before |
| Scan before you buy | Photograph something in a shop, or paste a product link, and see how it fits with what you already own |
| Gap report | See which occasions your wardrobe covers and where it's thin |
| Wear checks and logging | Record what you actually wore, so suggestions and stats reflect real use |
| Wardrobe review | Go through pieces you don't wear and decide what to keep or let go |
| Shared looks | Share one piece as a link to the outfits you've saved or worn with it |
| Virtual try-on | See a garment on a photo of yourself before you wear it |
| Outfit history | A calendar of every outfit you've worn |
| Seven languages | English, German, French, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese |
The features page goes through each of these in more detail, and Scan before you buy has its own page if that's the one you came for.
One wardrobe on Android, iPhone and the web
There is one account and one wardrobe behind every app. Add a jacket on your Android phone and it's in the web dashboard a moment later. Accept an outfit on your laptop and it shows up in the phone's history. The learning profile that shapes suggestions is the same everywhere too, so switching phones or using two devices doesn't reset anything.
That also means a household can mix platforms. One person on iPhone, another on Android and a third on the web can share a family group and rate each other's outfits.
Why install it if the web app works on Android
The web app at app.wardrowbe.com has always worked in Chrome on Android, and it still does. I'd still install the app, mostly for these two reasons.
Photographing clothes
Adding clothes is where most of the time goes when you start, and the app opens the camera directly. You can shoot a pile of pieces on the bed in one photo, review what the AI found, and move on to the next pile.
Getting the morning outfit
With a subscription, Wardrowbe can send you an outfit every morning for the day's weather. On Android that arrives as a normal push notification, and tapping it opens the outfit, so the outfit planner part of the app works without you remembering to open anything.
Paying for it
You don't need to pay anything to try it. A new account gets the free pass: 15 items and 3 outfit suggestions with no card. That's enough to tag a small working wardrobe and see whether the suggestions make sense for you.
When you want more, there are two ways to subscribe, and they unlock the same thing:
- Through Google Play. Pick monthly or yearly in the app, and Google bills your Play account. You manage or cancel it in the Play Store's subscriptions page like any other app.
- On the web. Subscribe at app.wardrowbe.com and sign in on Android with the same account.
If you already pay for Wardrowbe on the web or through the App Store, you don't need a second subscription. Sign in on Android to that same account and you're covered. Android has Google sign-in but no Sign in with Apple, so if you signed up on iPhone with Apple, use Google with the same email address to reach your account. That won't work if you picked Hide My Email when you signed up, because the address Apple passed on isn't one Google knows. The plans themselves are on the pricing section of the home page.
Using your own server
Wardrowbe's core is open source, and the Android app works with a self-hosted server as well as with Wardrowbe Cloud. On the sign-in screen, tap the server address at the bottom and enter your instance's URL. There is no billing on that path: the app talks to your server, and your server decides what you can do.
If you haven't set one up yet, the self-hosted wardrobe apps guide covers what you need, and the code is on GitHub.
If you were in the beta
You don't need to do anything. It's the same app on the same Play listing, and your account and wardrobe are where you left them. Updates keep arriving the way they did during the beta.
Getting started
- Install Wardrowbe from Google Play
- Sign in with Google or your Wardrowbe account, and a new account starts on the free pass
- Photograph a few pieces of clothing and let the AI tag them
- Ask for an outfit for today's weather
I've wanted the Android app public since I shipped the iPhone app and opened up the code in March, and it's good to finally have both. The open source core is on GitHub, and the web app is at app.wardrowbe.com if you'd rather start on a bigger screen.
See how it works, browse all features, or check pricing.
