Wardrowbe Holiday Sale: $6 a Month Until 31 Dec

Wardrowbe holiday sale poster: $6 a month for your first six months or $60 for the first year, with wardrobe pieces clipped to a string of fairy lights

Wardrowbe's holiday sale started yesterday. Until the end of 31 December, a new subscription on the web costs $6 a month for your first six months instead of $10, or $60 for your first year instead of $108. There's no code to type. The discount is taken off at checkout on app.wardrowbe.com for anyone who hasn't paid for Wardrowbe before.

What the sale gets you

PlanUsual priceHoliday saleAfter the sale period
Monthly$10 a month$6 a month for the first 6 months$10 a month
Yearly$108 a year$60 for the first year$108 a year

Over a first year that works out like this:

Bar chart of first-year cost with the Wardrowbe holiday sale: monthly plan $96 instead of $120, yearly plan $60 instead of $108

  • Monthly: six months at $6 and six at $10 comes to $96 for the first year.
  • Yearly: $60 for the first year, then the usual $108.

If you haven't had a trial before, the 14-day free trial still comes first, so nothing is charged for two weeks, and the sale price starts with your first payment. The sale itself ends at the end of 31 December (UTC).

Who it's for

The sale is a first-subscription price, so it's for people who haven't paid for Wardrowbe yet: people on the free pass, people who started a web trial and cancelled before it charged them, and anyone new to Wardrowbe. If you were already on a web trial when the sale started, it's been applied to your subscription and you don't need to do anything.

The sale runs through web checkout only, since the App Store and Google Play handle thier own billing and offers. A web subscription works everywhere though: subscribe at app.wardrowbe.com, then sign in to the iPhone app or the Android app with the same account.

If you already subscribe

Thank you. Your subscription pays for the servers and the AI behind every outfit suggestion, and for the time that went into what shipped this year, from Outfit Studio to the Android app. The sale doesn't change your plan, and nothing you have goes away because of it. There isn't a separate holiday offer for current subscribers, but there's alot more coming in the next few months, and it lands in the plan you already have.

Sticking around is rewarded too. Any month you use Wardrowbe on 12 or more days adds 3 bonus try-on credits, and at your 3rd, 6th and 12th month like that, a web subscription gets 20% off its next payment (App Store and Google Play subscriptions get 10 extra try-on credits instead). The achievements and rewards post has the details.

The sale is for new people because the first weeks are the hardest part: photographing a wardrobe takes time, and someone still deciding wants a smaller first step before they commit. If you know someone who keeps saying they have nothing to wear, this is a good month to send them our way.

Holiday outfits from clothes you already own

December is the month with the most outfits to figure out: work parties, family dinners, a New Year's Eve plan, and usually a few of them in the same week. It's also the month most people buy something new for each one. Wardrowbe is built for the opposite, getting more out of what's already in your wardrobe.

Three holiday outfits built from seven wardrobe pieces: a poplin shirt and tailored trousers for a work party, a knit polo and wide trousers for family dinner, a satin slip dress with an overshirt for New Year's Eve, all with the same suede sneakers

Here's how I'd use it for the season:

  1. Pick the occasion, not the clothes. Choose Office or Formal for the work party, Casual for a family dinner, Date for New Year's Eve, and Wardrowbe builds a full outfit from your wardrobe for that day's weather. The occasion guide goes through what each one means.
  2. Make your own occasion. If "Christmas at my parents' place" has its own rules (warm, nothing white, something that survives a toddler), set them as a Custom occasion in your preferences and use it every time.
  3. Start from the piece you want to wear. Pick the one thing you're set on, like a velvet blazer that comes out once a year, and smart pairings show what goes with it.
  4. Save the look ahead of time. Build the outfit for the big night in Outfit Studio a week early, so it's ready instead of decided at 7pm.
  5. Check before you buy. If you're about to buy a party outfit, Scan before you buy shows how it fits with what you own. Most of the time the answer is that you have something close enough already, which is the point of shopping less impulsively.

Repeating a good outfit is fine, too. The suede sneakers in the picture above show up in all three looks, and nobody at three different events is keeping track.

How to get the sale price

  1. Go to app.wardrowbe.com and sign in, or create an account
  2. Open billing and pick monthly or yearly; the holiday price shows on the plan
  3. Continue to checkout, where the discount is already applied (and the 14-day trial comes first if you haven't had one)
  4. Add your clothes, and ask for an outfit for whatever's on your calendar

If you'd rather look around before giving a card, the free pass gives you 15 items and 3 outfit suggestions with no card, and the sale is still there when you decide.

Self-hosting instead

If you'd rather run Wardrowbe on your own hardware, the open source core is free on GitHub and there's nothing to discount. The cloud vs self-hosted comparison covers what each one includes, and the self-hosted wardrobe apps guide walks through setting one up.

For the full plan details see pricing, browse all features, or read more on the Wardrowbe blog.
